Ron writes: (I love your products!) I notice bio-hazardous and poison warnings on your testing materials. What should be worn as far as protective gear when using your products? I just want to keep safety in mind when having others use your products for me. Answer: From Charlie in Technical Service - We agree that safety is very important. The answer to your question depends upon several factors. Your choice of protective gear should be based on the following considerations: 1) The Reagents being used. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for protection guidelines. MSDS are available on-line at www.lamotte.com, by calling our toll-free customer service department (800) 344-3100, or inserted in kits. Code numbers for on-line inquiry are located on the top left side of the reagent label. 2) Test Methods being utilized. Test strips, for example, will tend to require less protection than tests involving liquid or powder reagents. Take note of the recommended protective gear in your written procedure included in every kit. 3) Environmental conditions at the time of testing. When field testing in wind, goggles and/or protective clothing may be appropriate. 4) Always meet or exceed the protective gear required by the most restrictive reagent in the kit. If gloves and goggles are needed for one reagent, it is best to wear this protection for the duration of the test, including clean-up. In addition, keep a few other general precautions in mind:Wash thoroughly before eating, drinking, smoking, and touching sensitive areas, like your eyes.
